WHO WE ARE
Smile of a King Foundation
SOAK Foundation was started in memory of Tashan Solomon King. Tashan was a 24-year-old male who sadly died by suicide on the 6th of February 2022. His family, basketball coach and friends came together to start the foundation to tackle mental health issues within the black male community.
Origin of the name
We decided to name the charity Smile Of A King because of the bright smile he had. Tashan’s memorial book is testimony to the positive impact that his smile had on people. As well as his surname being King , we want every King (male) that we help through our charity to be able to find their smile in life.
OUR AIM
What we strive for
We want to help to tackle mental health issues within the Afro-Caribbean male community. We want to be able to liaise with a collocative of counsellors/therapist to channel their services. This referral would last a minimum of three months (12 sessions) and we would also want to offer it to men recently released from prison. We believe it would have a major positive impact on their mental health.
